President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance administration through Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has raised fuel prices with immediate effect, citing the increase to Russia-Ukraine war.
The development is set to see more price increases for basic goods and services, at time incomes are depressed.
Mera Chief Executive Officer, Henry Kachaje, said Petrol will now be sold at MK1,999 per litre from MK1, 380; Diesel will now be sold at MK1,920 from MK1, 470 while paraffin is now at MK1,236 from MK956 per litre.
Meanwhile, motorists and Malawians on the social media have reacted angrily to the fuel increase.
