Political analyst says Chakwera’s decision on Chilima to harm marriage

Well-known political analyst in the country George Phiri has said the decision by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to withhold delegated duties to his Vice Dr. Saulos Chilima will have a negative impact on Tonse Alliance.

Phiri said this following a reaction by the United Transformation Movement (UTM) expressing shock over a decision by the President.

In the interview Phiri said Chakwera’s decision is likely to be a deal breaker and damage relations between the two leaders and shake the foundation of the Tonse Alliance.

Concurring with Phiri’s remarks another political analyst Victor Chipofya has said president Chakwera’s decision will create a rift between the two sides, as it technically renders the veep redundant.

When contacted for comment Chilima’s press aide Pilirani Phiri said: “The Vice-President will speak or comment on the matter at an opportune time.”

But UTM in a statement has said that the party has faith in the country’s justice system and it will let justice prevail on the matter.

“We, as UTM, are shocked and saddened by the turn of events in the past 24 hours, but as a party that has absolute belief and trust in Malawi’s justice system, we have absolute confidence that justice will prevail in the end.

“We are not going to make further comments henceforth until this issues comes to its logical conclusion. We continue our unweaving support and following to our President, Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, who led us through all trials and tribulations before and during the campaign period that ushered in the present Government,” said UTM spokesperson Frank Tumpale Mwenefumbo.
