Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has given Electricity Supply Corporation Of Malawi Limited (ESCOM) a go ahead to increase electricity tariffs by 4%.

ESCOM initially wanted a 10% increase citing the cost of maintenance and operations.

However, MERA in consideration of the current economic situation has only allowed a 4% hike.
