Bushiri’s extradition case back in Court

Shepherd Bushiri also known as Major 1 and his wife Mary are back in Lilongwe Magistrates Court for a ruling on the State’s application for South African witnesses to testify in South Africa.

Director of Public Prosecution, Steve Kayuni, applied to have the witnesses record their evidence in South Africa because of logistical challenges, arguing that it is expensive to bring and accommodate the witnesses in Malawi.

However, Bushiri’s Lawyer, Wapona Kita, challenged the application because the issue was already dealt with by the same court in its ruling of 8th June 2021 where the court decided that the reasons were not convincing enough.

The Presiding Magistrate is scheduled to deliver a ruling on the matter today.
