Traffic Police Officers to have guns on the road

All Traffic Police Officers going for or conducting Traffic checks have been directed to make sure that they are accompanied by an armed Police Officer or have someone within the team to carry a riffle.

This is contained in a circular seen by this publication.

The development follows incident of violence against Traffic police officers with the latest being the assault of traffic officers by passengers at Nandos in Blantyre.

The traffic officers wanted to impound a minibus for Wrong Parking.
“No team should be found without a firearm,” said a wireless message addressed to all regional compols, stations and units from Tatpol.

Meanwhile, Malawians have reacted differently with many claiming that this will result in the death of innocent people.
