FAM has made gains through hosting and organising the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier between Ethiopia and Egypt at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe last Thursday.
The Nation has established that the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is expected to gross over K102.7 million from gate revenue and broadcasting rights.

The local football governing body negotiated a deal valued at $36 000 (about K37.1 million)towards match organisation at the stadium, vehicle hiring, security, medical and stadium lighting, among other expenses .
Apart from getting $4 400 (about K4.5 million) as match organisation fee, FAM also negotiated a 50 percent net share of gate revenue amounting to $5,500 (about K5.7 million.
FAM is also expected to receive not less than K30 million as projected broadcasting revenue from Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the same match.
The association’s general secretary Alfred Gunda confirmed the figures in an interview on Sunday, saying: “After all reconciliations, the gross is coming up to slightly over K100 million.”
FAM entered into special agreement with Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) to help them organise the match following CAF’s decision to ban their national stadium for failing to meet minimum requirements.
FAM grossed a record breaking gate revenue of K72.7 million when the Flames hosted Ethiopia on June 4 while the match between Ethiopia and Egypt raked in K52.7 million.
