Deal with licensed couriers—Macra

Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) has asked people in the country to deal with licensed couriers.

This follows complaints from customers about poor service of some courier service providers.

Macra communications manager Zadziko Mankhambo  said in an interview on Monday that they receive complaints from people about poor service delivery by some courier operators.

“We encourage people to use licensed courier operators because when something goes  wrong, we can easily take them to account. There are penalties which are issued in accordance with every breach of the licence conditions,” he said.

While courier services are meant to provide a quicker and more reliable solution to delivering mail and parcels, it has come to light that some of these go missing.

Speed Courier official Talha Malik said in an interview on Monday that they handle complaints that come to their attention appropriately.

He said: “This is a service industry and complaints are expected, both positive and negative as we operate in 14 branches in the country.

“Depending on the scenario, we always find out what the problem is to give a good service.”

In a separate interview, a customer Deborah Banda commended Macra for enforcing the regulations.
