Police in Chipata have arrested a 50 year old man of Chipangali District for murdering his four year old granddaughter.

Penias Nkhuwa hacked his granddaughter with a hoe. Mr Nkhuwa got upset when his wife took him into the house to sleep as he was drunk.

According to family members, Nkhuwa wanted to hack his wife but ended up hacking the granddaughter who was at her back.

Acting Eastern Province police Commanding officer Davies Simwanza confirmed the arrest of Nkhuwa.

The deceased, Grace Mwale, sustained deep head injuries and died instantly.
