Atupele Muluzi resigns

United Democratic Front, UDF president Atupele Muluzi has resigned as the party’s president.

In a signed statement, Muluzi has since appointed Lilian Patel as acting president until a party convention is held.

According to Muluzi in his address, he is stepping back from active politics and going into business for the development and progress of Malawi.

UDF secretary general Kandi Padambo has confirmed the development and said, the young Muluzi who took over from his father, Bakili, will concentrate on business as one way of helping the country.

Until his resignation, Young Muluzi has served as the UDF President for 18 years.
