NLB Clears the Air on K100 million Premier Bet Aviator winner

The National Lotteries Board (NLB) has quashed social media reports indicating that the K100 million Premier Bet Aviator winner was a stunt.

On the 20th of May, Media outlets across the country reported that a Lilongwe-based 22-year-old salon operator Mercy Phiri (Not the real name) had won K100 Million from Premier bet after placing two separate bets for K500 to win through the game.

A communication issued by the body says an independent preliminary investigation carried out by the licensing body verified that the winner had indeed been paid and had opted not to use her true identity for personal reasons.

Meanwhile, NLB has issued a five-year license to premier bet to operate sports betting in the country under section 36(2) of the Lotteries act.
