Lilongwe welcomes Ndabwera ndi Nkhani

Scores of music fans on Sunday flocked to Lilongwe Golf Club to witness the launch of Kell Kay’s  much-awaited Ndabwera ndi Nkhani album.

The gates opened as early as 10am, but up to 8.30pm people were still scrambling for an opportunity to find their way into the show despite the venue being filled by 6pm.

Multi award-winning R ’n’ B singer Kell Kay, born Kell Kambwiri, packaged the event stylishly by featuring local and international artists.

For those who attended the launch, it was worth spending on both time and money as the experience  cut the day shorter than usual.

One of the patrons Dickson Phiri said: “I don’t regret anything here, I am at the right place and its worth spending because good things come at a cost. This show is a marvel in all aspects beginning with the planning to performances.”

Supporting artists took turns offering their best songs to the crowd that attended.

From Phyzix to Lulu, all local artists impressed.

South Africa’s Mafikizolo impressed the most with their flawless set as did their compatriot Zanda Zakuza who was also a marvel to watch save for a few technical glitches that almost ruined her set.

According to Kell Kay, the album is a blend of themes of love, gospel and real life stories packaged in an entertaining container.

“It is an album about my life, my family, my friends and what we people go through in life. In other words, I have come to narrate a story and that story is what is in the album,” he said.

This is his second album in his eight-year music career.

The event was only challenged by long breaks between artists’ performances that at times, the hosts Priscilla Kayira and Super DT could be seen not knowing what to say after staying to patrons. Other than this, the event was a perfect album launch.
