Former Vice President and Freedom Party (FP) President Khumbo Hastings Kachali has said there is a need to revise the country’s laws to clearly stipulate how coalition parties should run a government.
Kachali’s remarks come amid infighting in the Tonse Alliance with supporters demanding for the release of the agreement signed between President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and his Vice Dr. Saulos Chilima ahead of the June 23, 2020 fresh Presidential polls.
Speaking in an interview with the press Kachali said the absence of laws guiding coalition-led governments is the reason why some parties in the coalition are inactive.
He then admitted Tonse Alliance partners are not aware of the agreement made between President Lazarus Chakwera and Vice president Saulos Chilima.
Commenting on Kachali’s remarks political analyst George Phiri said while review of the law would be crucial, in the meantime parties in the Tonse alliance need to meet regularly and discuss how to run the country to avoid blame being heaped on the president as it is with the current economic challenges.
