Ministry of Education has noted with concern that some teachers in public schools have a tendency of deliberately not effectively teaching all learning areas and subjects during school timetable.
A statement signed by Chikondano Mussa, Secreatary for Education stated that some teachers do not cover the whole syllabus in order to justify implementation of summer lessons during holidays where they charge fees.
The Ministry has warned teachers in the country that they will not tolerate the malpractice.
It has strongly said the teachers should follow the timetable to avoid extending teaching during summer holidays with the intention of charging fees.
In cases where learners fall in the teaching out comes, teachers have been encouraged to hold remedial lessons.
Public primary education in Malawi is tuition free and the tendency of charging fees leaves out many poor learners in the country who cannot afford to pay for their summer lessons.
