“A Culture Of Silence among men fueling GBV In Malawi”- Mulenga

Senior Superintendent Idesi Mulenga for Kasungu Police Station has said four men have committed suicide in the district on gender related cause in the first quarter of the year.

She made this remarks this morning during female police and prison officers’ parade in Kasungu Municipality.

She indicated that the culture of silence is the one which has made some men to commit suicide when they face gender based violence in their home.

“All we are saying is men must not be shy to report any forms of abuses they face from their spouses to reduce such incident,” said Mulenga.

The parade was organized as part of raising awareness on gender based violence and suicide cases among men in the country.

The southern African Women Network is encouraging women officers to display their potential to the communities as part of the Basadi (Women) week.
