22 year old man identified as Hanneck Yonas Namithala has committed suicide in Mulanje for reasons yet to be established.

Mulanje Police Station deputy spokesperson Leah Kambalame said the incident happened on 25 April 2022, at Njedza Village, Senior Chief Mabuka in the district.

Kambalame said it is believed that on Sunday, April 24, 2022, Namithala who was staying alone in the house picked a quarrel with friend.

She said later, relatives started looking for him after noting his absence but found him hanging to the roof of the house using a wire.

A report was made to Mulanje Police Station where detectives rushed to the scene and took the body to Mulanje District Hospital.

According to Kambalame postmortem conducted at the facility established that death was due to suffocation secondary to strangulation.

The deceased hailed from Nasiyaya Village, Traditional Authority Kadewere in Phalombe District.

Police in the district advise people to share their problems with relevant authorities for help as opposed to committing suicide.
