FDH Bank ordered to pay compensations to 212 fired employees

An Industrial Relations Court in Blantyre has ruled that FDH Bank should pay compensation and severance benefits to 212 of its former employees.

The 212 were dismissed on redundancy grounds when FDH merged with the then Malawi Savings Bank.

The court has determined that the former employees were not consulted before being dismissed, and that they were entitled to compensation and severance benefits which they were not paid.

It says these must be paid upon assessment.

Meanwhile lawyer representing FDH Bank Alfred Majamanda has indicated that the bank will appeal the verdict.

He believes that the court erred in law in various respects and that the judgement is against the weight of evidence placed in court.
