Over A Million Malawians Gets Covid-19 Jabs

Public Health Institute of Malawi statistics shows that 1 193 702 people have received Covid-19 vaccines with 2 784 people having taken the Covid-19 booster doses.

The Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 is not impressed with the figures saying people are still showing resistance to take the vaccines, mainly the booster dose, which restores weaken immune system and is administered after the first series of vaccination.

Dr Titus Davala, Infectious disease expert said the national should work on sensitizing the public, especially on another wave is imminent that will likely be driven by new variants.

“There is very little ongoing transmission and few  hospitalisations and deaths. Globally, things are changing towards living with the virus with restrictions being lifted and everyone feeling more relaxed about Covid-19”, he said

Microbiologist at Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), Gama Bandawe said, people’s hesitation to get vaccines is a problem.

“People need to understand that with every wave, the virus changes, so with booster dose vaccines, is very crucial to public health awareness”, said Bandawe

As of today Tuesday 21 April, out of 569 471 tests conducted there are 81 922 recoveries from covid-19 with 85 729 cumulative cases reported, the pandemic has claimed 2632 lives so far.
