Malawi Police Service (MPS) has launched an investigation into the death of a suspected thief who was allegedly murdered-mob-justice style- by suspected Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) students yesterday afternoon.
According to a statement released by police alleges in a statement that “…some MUBAS students dragged the unknown suspect into their campus while heavily assaulting him over accusation that he wanted to pickpocket one of the students.”
“It is further alleged that after assaulting the unknown suspect, the students set his body on fire before police moved in to collect the body,” reads the statement.
Reports indicate he was allegedly caught trying to steal from a female student before her scream attracted the attention of others who descended on him and set him on fire.
According to some students we talked to, the suspected thief was in the company of others who managed to flee while he was not lucky enough.
