Chakwera impressed with modern farming

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera says he is impressed with modern farming as witnessed in three farms he has just finished inspecting in Ntcheu District.

The President visited the three farms where farmers are growing crops in clusters.

The first stop was at Kam’bebe Village in Traditional Authority (TA) Njolomole where he met Martha Weston a farmer with two acres of land. Weston told Dr Chakwera that she used to harvest 24 bags of Maize on this land.

“As you can see my crop stand this year, I expect that I will get 60 bags,” Weston told the President.

Dr Chakwera then visited Baleni Village, TA Njolomole, where farmers have an eight-kilometre stretch of Maize field standing on a 43.2 hectare of land.

Lucy Dyson told the Malawi leader that since she started farming with other farmers on this cluster farm she is getting double yields in comparison to her previous harvest records.

Dr Chakwera’s last stop was at Bula Village in TA Makwangwala’s area. There he inspected pigeon pea and soya farms where farmers are growing the legumes to restore soil fertility and improve their incomes.

Meanwhile, the President has proceeded to conduct a development rally at Kuyenda Primary School ground in TA Makwangwala’s area.
