A 4-year-old police officer’s daughter identified as Fortune Joseph has died while her teacher Ruth Finyani, 26, has been injured after being struck by lightning.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of April 7, 2022, at Green Spark Nursery School within Iba Village, Traditional Authority Chowe in Mangochi, according to Mangochi Police Spokesperson Sub-inspector Amina Tepani Daudi.

“On the said date Fortune, who until her death was a learner at Green Spark Nursery School, was playing outside with other kids during lunchtime while it was showering. Unfortunately, lightning struck her and the teacher who sat a bit far watching the kids.

“The two were rushed to Iba Health Centre where the minor was pronounced dead upon arrival. The teacher who sustained serious burn wounds has since been referred to Mangochi District Hospital for further treatment.
