Nkhotakota District Council has dismissed 24 employees over alleged mismanagement of funds.
The council’s spokesperson Stanly Nkhondoyachepa has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
According to Nkhondoyachepa, the 24 were not remitting to the council the funds they were collecting in different markets and bus depots in the district.
Nkhondoyachepa said despite several warnings, the direct employees, mostly revenue collectors, continued with the malpractice; hence, the decision.
But reacting to the move, the fired employees’ representative Levison Chimbayo, who was employed by the council in 2014, has described the action as laughable, saying they are currently engaging their lawyer on the matter.
