Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MRA) has said that fuel prices in the country are better off than other countries.
MERA Chief Executive Officer Henry Kachaje said Malawi has maintained fuel prices with Petrol at K1,150 per litre since October 2021 while other countries have hiked fuel prices.
He said for instance in UK Petrol is at an equivalent K3,000 per litre, South Africa at an equivalent K1,300 per litre, Zimbabwe at equivalent over K2,000 per litre and Zambia at equivalent K1,100 per litre.
Kachaje speaking in Lilongwe, where minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola and Minister of Information Gospel Kazako are facing the press, said the major contributing factor to rising fuel prices globally is the war in Ukraine.
