Malawians on social media are reacting to the reports that the Malawi Police service (MPS) has arrested journalist Gregory Gondwe of Platform for Investigative Journalism (PIJ).
Few hours ago, Gondwe’s colleague Golden Matonga, wrote on his Facebook page that in the morning the police raided their offices demanding the two to reveal the source on their recent story in which PIJ revealed that how government recently paid Zuneth Sattar’s entities despite Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda issuing a ban on the same.
According to Matonga, the police then confiscated their computers and Gondwe’s phones before taking him to unknown destination, he then added that their lawyers are working hard to find him.
Reacting on the same, social commentator Onjezani Kenani wonders if the country ios not past the days of muzzling journalists adding that the truth has now become one of the endangered species.
Human Rights advocate and journalist Ian Simbota said the arrest of Gondwe is the reason to rally behind citizens against Impunity.
Meanwhile, social media is flooded with free Gregory hashtags which are aimed at forcing the police to release the journalist.
