Man convicted for chopping off two toes of a 92 year-old albino woman

A Senior Resident Magistrate court sitting in Mzimba has convicted a 24 year-old, Fumu Nyirenda for chopping off two toes of a 92 year-old, Tafwauli Ngoma, a person with albinism at Kapopo Mhlanga village in February 2020.

Senior Resident Magistrate, Mathews Msiska who has adjourned the case to a later date for sentencing also acquitted two men who were answering similar charges with Nyirenda for lack of evidence connecting them to offence.

While the state represented by Jonathan Mumba a public prosecutor from public prosecution directorate in the Ministry of Justice asked the court to mete out a stiffer punishment urging that these cases are rampant in the country, Legal Aid Bureau lawyers representing Nyirenda asked for leniency in sentencing saying the convict is young and he only chopped off toes and not a hand or leg from the victim.
