Mangochi South West Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) parliamentarian and former President Peter Mutharika’s spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba has been fined for illegal usage of ESCOM units to his Nalipili Lodge in Mulanje.

Namalomba is the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) an oversight Committee that is mandated to fish out fraud in government agencies and companies.

ESCOM CEO Kamkwamba Kumwenda has told this publication that several individuals and businesses have been buying electricity from parallel markets knowingly.

“This illegal, fraudulent and unacceptable. They have dubiously been buying units from ESCOM and Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) employees and that these people and businesses owe ESCOM hundreds of millions of Kwacha, ” he said.

Namalomba is yet to comment on the matter.
