Women donate K10m relief items to flood survivors in Chikwawa

oalition of Women Living with HIV and Aids has donated relief items worth 10 000 euros (about K10.2  million) to 1 103 young people affected by Tropical Storm Ana in traditional authorities (T/As) Ngabu, Lundu and Ndakwera in Chikwawa District. 

The items included maize and soya pieces.

Speaking during the handover on Saturday, the organisation’s programmes manager Harry Madukani said the beneficiaries were part of a group of people on anti-retroviral treatment (ART) aged between 10 and 24.

He said: “As such, they need food because they cannot take the drugs without food.”

Madukani said his organisation plans to train the young people in business management and village savings and loans to generate their own money to buy basic items.

One of the beneficiaries from Ngabu commended Coalition of Women Living with HIV and Aids for the donation.

She said: “My family was affected by the storm and we lost everything.

“It has been difficult to source food, and the maize flour will help us a lot.”

The organisation made the donation with support from Aidsfonds of The Netherlands.
