The Technical, Entrepreneurial, Vocational Education and Training Authority (Teveta) has donated assorted relief items worth K10.5 million to people affected by tropical storms Ana and Gombe in Chikwawa District.

The donated items made to people staying at Kalima Camp, included soya pieces, 361 bags of maize, salt, sugar and water buckets.

Speaking after making the donation, Teveta board chairperson Tony Whayo said the assistance is complementing efforts from other players who are also making similar interventions.

He said: “Being here, you can appreciate how much the people are suffering and the need for more assistance.

“Everyone needs to do their part so that our friends are assisted.”  

In his remarks, group village head Kalima urged authorities to speed up the process of relocating the communities to permanent upland areas.

His sentiments were echoed by Traditional Authority Kanseche who said despite being the farming season, people do not  have a home or any single farming tool.
