Member of Parliament for Lilongwe City Centre Alfred Jiya has once again endorsed President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera as Malawi Congress Party (MCP) torchbearer in the forthcoming 2025 general elections.

The first endorsement was made by MCP Second Vice President Harry Mkandawire and his declaration attracted criticisms from all corners.

Speaking during the opening of the 2022 Tobacco Selling Season in Lilongwe Jiya said he has been sent by people in her constituency to endorse Chakwera.

“Mr. President ‘anthu andituma Kuti ndikuwuzeni Kuti akufuna inuyo muzayimenso mu 2025. Alibenso candidate wina koma inuyo basi’ and the people have spoken,” said Jiya while attracting ululations from MCP supporters.

The endorsement is creating panic among Tonse Alliance partners.

Effort to talk to MCP spokesperson Maurice Munthali on the matter proved futile.
