Sentencing Of MASM Boss Andrew Ngomwa Accused Of Rape Committed To High Court

Blantyre Chief Resident Magistrate Court has committed the sentencing of former Medical Aid Association Malawi (MASM) Chief Executive Officer Andrew Ngomwa to High Court.

Ngomwa was found guilty of raping and infecting a niece with HIV and AIDS in January this year.

Chief Resident Magistrate Jean Kayira made the ruling on Wednesday following an application by the state on the matter.

According to law, the Chief Residents Magistrate court only has powers to pass a sentence of not more than 21 years.

In his sentence, Magistrate Kayira has ordered Ngomwa to be further remanded at Chichiri Prison while waiting for his sentence.

Ngomwa committed the offence in 2020.
