MCHINJI: Man arrest for Illegal Possession of Endangered Pangolin

Police in Mchinji district have arrested a 40-year-old man for being found in possession of the endangered live Pangolin.

Mchinji Police Station Officer, Charles James Mpezeni has confirmed the development while identifying the suspect as, Rackson Phiri.

This comes as the police continue to make arrests on suspicion of the trafficking of the animal which is said to fetch a fortune from the Chinese.

According to Mpezeni, the suspect was arrested at Bua Trade Centre while hunting for a market for the animal.

Meanwhile, police intend to hand over the wild animal to the Department of National Parks and Wildlife for relocation to its natural habitat.

The man shall be taken to court for prosecution.
