The Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of parliament is scheduled to confirm the newly appointed Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority Board on Saturday and Sunday.

The development comes barely a day after President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera constituted MERA board which is now being chaired by Reckford Kampanje.

While Innocencia Chirombo has been named as Vice Chairperson.

Charles Kambauwa, Lameck Mchembe and Ulemu Kambwiri have been appointed as members of MERA Board.

PAC Chairperson Joyce Chitsuro confirmed this in an interview with the press saying it is a matter that requires urgency.

On the other hand she has commended the president for following the MERA Act on continuity side.

Previous board members resigned following a recommendation by state house to Public Appointments Committee of Parliament to approve their firing over alleged incompetence in hiring Henry Kachaje as the regulatory body’s Chief Executive Officer.
