President Lazarus Chakwera is expected to visit the United States from March 16 to 19, as chairperson of the United Nations (UN) group of Least Development Countries (LDCs).
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Chakwera will participate in the first part of the UN conference on LDCs at the organization’s headquarters in New York.
The UN describes LDCs as low-income countries confronting severe structural impediments to sustainable development.
“They are highly vulnerable to economic and environmental shocks and have low levels of human assets,” the UN says.
