An angry mob in Mansa has descended on a 26-year-old man, handing him a painful one-way ticket to the land of the dead shortly after he stabbed his one-year-old son to death.
According to Luapula Province deputy commanding officer Daniel Museteka, the two deaths occurred on Saturday afternoon in Monga Village of Chief Mabumba’s area.
Sources close to the incident testified that a day before the lovers’ day of Valentine, Benson Nkandu went to the house of his wife’s parents to confront them over the withdrawal of their daughter from marriage over nonpayment of dowry.
When his mission of taking his wife, Flaviour Mambwe back home failed, Nkandu threatened to kill his spouse along with his child in order to pay for the dowry before he was hounded out by his shocked and angry in-laws.
However, Nkandu returned to the residence of his in-laws on Saturday where he found his wife seated outside with the couples child.
Upon seeing Nkandu, terrified Flaviour sprung to her feet and sprinted off into the house leaving the child with his “demonic” father.
Alone with the child, Nkandu then got a knife and stabbed the hapless infant exposing his intestines and inflicting a deep wound on his left arm.
As Nkandu was stabbing the child named after himself, his brother-in-law found him and called for help.
The villagers managed to wrestle the bloodied child from its father and while some of them rushed the child to Monga Rural health Centre others opted to beat the demonic life out of Nkandu.
Benson Junior was pronounced dead on arrival at the health facility while Nkandu also died from the vicious beatings administered by his fellow villagers.
