Govt to spend MK1.4 billion in building Orton Chirwa Mausoleum

Information sourced by this publication indicates that the Tonse Alliance government of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera will spend over Mk1.4 billion in constructing a mausoleum of late Orton Chirwa in Nkhata-Bay.

Weeks ago Minister of Tourism and Culture Michael Usi told the family of late Orton Chirwa that government will construct a befitting mausoleum for the freedom fighter.

And today, the Ministry of Tourism has placed a notice to builders that government has awarded the contract of constructing the mausoleum to Hema Construction Limited and Central Construction Group.

The contract will see government parting ways with money amounting to MK1, 401,128,524.30.

The development has attracted mixed reactions with many Malawians saying the mausoleum is too expensive.
