Ministry impressed with police housing project

Deputy Minister of Lands Deus Gumba has expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of works on 10 houses for police officers under construction at Jenda Police Station in Mzimba District.

He expressed the sentiments on Monday during his tour of the construction site to appreciate the progress of the project.

“I am impressed with the quality of  building materials and the pace of the project,” said Gumba.

The deputy minister said he was hopeful that the contractor will meet the project’s 12-month initial construction period.

Said Gumba: “President Lazarus Chakwera promised that he will improve the livelihoods of security personnel in the country by building good houses for them.

“This is what he meant and his promise was not just political rhetoric, but a reality and it is being fulfilled.”

Jenda Police Station officer-in-charge Sydon Mpina thanked government for embarking on the project.

“We ask government to construct 100 houses at Jenda because we have vast land which can accommodate them,” he said.

Hualong Construction Company assistant foreman Damiano Phodogoma assured the deputy minister that they will complete the works within the 12-month period.
