LUSAKA Chief Resident magistrate Dominic Makalicha has committed former president Edgar Lungu’s aide de camp Chisanga Chanda to the High Court for trial.
This was after state prosecutor Abraham Ngozoh presented a committal certificate from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Magistrate Makalicha earlier explained the charge to Mr Chanda and told him that he could not take plea before him because the offence was triable in the High Court.
He therefore, committed him to the High Court for trial following instructions received from the DPP.
In this case, Chanda is charged with accessories after the fact to murder.
Allegations are that Chanda, well knowing that one Shebby Chisenga Chilekwa on October 6, 2019 in Kaoma, Western Province, did murder Lawrence Banda, on unknown dates but between October 6, 2019 and February 4, 2022 in Lusaka, received, comforted, harboured, assisted and maintained Chilekwa. Mr Chanda will be informed when he will be expected to take plea in the High Court.
