Zambian Teen Nabbed For Stealing Chief Mpezeni’s Car keys

Police in Chipata District have charged and arrested an 18-year-old boy for stealing car keys belonging to Paramount Chief Mpezeni.

Both Chief Mpezeni and acting Eastern Province Police commanding officer Davis Simwanza confirmed the development.

The Paramount Chief said the boy stole the keys from one of his vehicles at Ephendukeni palace on 24 th February 2022.

He said in the night while he was at Laweni for the Nc’wala, the suspect attempted to steal a vehicle but failed because it had no battery.
And Mr Simwanza said the suspect Zondwayo Jere from Chief Mpezeni’s area has been charged with theft of motor vehicle keys.

He said the suspect was arrested for stealing safety boots from a ZESCO vehicle but when Police searched him, he was found with car keys.

He said upon being queried on the keys, the suspect disclosed that he stole them from the Paramount Chief.

Mr Simwanza said the suspect has been charged with two counts of theft and will appear in court soon. He dismissed social media reports that the suspect stole a vehicle from the Paramount Chief.
