Blantyre Water Board and the Malawi Police Service (South West Region) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will see the two parties collaborating in the fight against vandalism, theft of water infrastructure and dealing with illegal connections.
Speaking during the press briefing, BWB Chief Executive Officer Dr.. Robert Hanjahanja expressed concern on the increasing number of cases of theft and vandalism of BWB water infrastructure. ” We are serious about this joint operation we will make sure offenders are punished” he said.
Commenting on Dr. Hanjahanja’s remarks, the Commissioner of Police (South West) Mr Ellobiam Banda, PPM said the Malawi Police Service commits itself to work with Blantyre Water Board to curb this vice.
The agreement with BWB will smooth the working relationship between the two parties through information exchange. “Just last week Friday we have arrested a person with 5 BWB meters and investigations are underway on the matter., Commissioner Banda said.
“We will arrest anyone vandalizing BWB water infrastructure to be sentenced by the courts, he added.
