Liwonde Police Public Relations Officer, Ngwashape Msume has confirmed the arrest of a woman, Stella Sichali, 37 who was running away with K500, 000 which was supposed to be shared with her three friends.
According to Msume, Sichali enticed Thabita Kayira and two other women to help her in supplying food stuffs to the Golden Peacock Hotel as she was bankrupt.
“The Hotel paid the suspect K500,000. However, instead of sharing the proceeds to the three business partners, Sichali ran away.
The complainants reported the matter to Blantyre Police Station. An investigation indicated the suspect boarded a Toyota Virtz registration number BT 2068 heading for Balaka,” says Msume.
She added Blantyre Police then tipped their colleagues at Liwonde who managed to intercept the suspect at Liwonde Police Road Block.
Upon searching her, she was found with K100 million cash.
The suspect hails from Mulale Village, Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga district.
