It was an evening full of fun, laughter and good music when musician Joe Gwaladi performed at Mibawa Multipurpose Hall in Blantyre during the Saturday Night Live show.

Dressed in a bright orange T-shirt and black pair of trousers, Gwaladi exhibited enthusiasm and confidence as he jumped on stage to open his set with an introductory song before playing Tumbocid.

He sang in part: “Anzanu anayezetsa pano akunenepa, akutchedwa anamadya bwino, tsogolo lawo akuliona, mungopita mukayezetse basi..musalimbane ndi Tumbocid mungopita mukayezetse..”

After his first set, Gwaladi took a break, paving the way for Mibawa Band led by Goma Nyondo and Lilia. They opened their set with Oliver Mtukudzi’s songs Nelia and Thodi. Then they performed a cover of Wambali Mkandawire’s Nkhunjipeleka.

Then Lilia took the lead with John Legend’s All Of Me, and Keisha White’s Weakness in Me before performing Brenda Fassie’s Vulindlela and Zahara’s Loliwe.

Later Goma took charge of things again leading the band in performing Sometimes I Wonder and Seasons Change by Kalimba Band. He also did a cover of Chinafuna M’bale.

 After their one hour set, Gwaladi came back on stage to perform Ndinafa Bulu and Chikondi Ndi Magazi, among other songs.

During his performances, Gwaladi did a lot of free styles adding lyrics out of his head while engaging the audience whom he keep dancing and laughing to his jokes.

His stage antics were enough to motivate the audience to give him K2 000 notes which he was thankful for.

“Ambuye akudalitseni amalawi amzanga omwe mwandipatsa ndalama, Mulungu awonjezere pomwe mwachotsapo [God bless you my friends for the money you have given me],” said the musician.

Gwaladi was a marvel to watch throughout his set with his signature head tilting dance moves, free interaction with the audience and his jokes which at times had a touch of vulgar language.
