Unknown Criminals have stolen the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) transformer at Andiamo in Balaka District.

ESCOM Public Relations Manager, Innocent Chitosi, has confirmed the development to the press, saying that the theft occurred Thursday night.

The thugs also broke into three other shops where they went away with cash, and goods worth over 2.5 million kwacha.

For the past weeks, Balaka has reported a series of serious crimes.

Earlier last week, a security guard was brutally murdered at a coffin workshop.

Meanwhile, the police have instituted investigations to apprehend the culprits.
