Almost nine suspects have been arrested over the weekend in connection with break-ins at Catholic institutions.
Malawi Police Service spokesperson James Kadadzera has identified some of the nine suspects as 41-year-old Blessings Patrick Kapusa from Malanga Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Mwansambo, in Nkhotakota District and 44-year-old Ibrahim Samuel Mbewe from Mlambuzi Village, T/A Bvumbwe, in Thyolo District.
Kadadzera says they suspect that the nine terrorized Limbe Cathedral, Nantipwili Parish at Bvumbwe, Thunga Parish in Thyolo, and Bishop’s house in Chikwawa Diocese.
He says Police have recovered stolen property such as cellphones and forex, which were stolen at Nantipwili Parish at Bvumbwe.
According to Kadadzera, some of the stolen properties i.e, cellphones, have been recovered and have since been positively identified by the complainants.
Currently, the CID team is on the ground to effect more arrests and subsequently recover the remaining stolen properties.
