Human Rights Advocate Trashes Revised Constituency Development Funds

Human rights activist and government critic Michael Kaiyatsa has trashed the revised Constituency Development Funds (CDF) budget allocation.

According to the Executive Director of the Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR), the funds does not benefit ordinary Malawians.

Kaiyatsa added that the CDF money usually is abused by Members of Parliament hence his judgement.

Finance Minister Sosten Gwengwe confirmed the 100 million kwacha provision per constituency in Parliament last Friday during presentation of his 2.8 trillion kwacha maiden national budget statement.

The CDF has been revised from K40 million in the previous financial plan to the K100 million.
