A 9-year-old girl has died in a road accident after being hit by a motor vehicle in Kasungu.

The girl was hit on Monday afternoon as she was crossing the road at Kamphulu Trading Centre in the district.

The deceased has been identified as Tendai Kambuzi from Jekemu Village Traditional in the area of Authority Njombwa in Kasungu District.

The accident involved a Toyota Probox registration number CA 8452 driven by Davie Chunga, 20, and was coming from the direction of Santhe heading towards Chinkhoma.

Upon arrival at Kamphulu Trading Centre, he started overtaking another vehicle and hit the minor who was crossing from left to right side of the road.

Following the impact, Tendai sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Kasungu District Hospital where death was pronounced upon arrival.

Meanwhile, Chunga is in police custody waiting for court proceedings.
Police in the district are appealing to all road users to always follow road safety measures to avoid such accidents.
