Police Phalombe have arrested a driver Peter Kani aged 52, over the death of a nine-year-old girl through reckless driving at Phalombe Boma yesterday.

Reports indicate that kani, who was driving a Nissan Tiida registration number 9937 allegedly hit the girl near Phalombe District Health Office(DHO) when crossing the road from the left to right side of the road.

The victim sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Phalombe Health Center.

Phalombe Police Spokesperson, Jimmy Kapanja confirmed the development saying they apprehended the suspect and will appear in court soon to answer the charges of reckless driving and causing death under section 126 (4c) of Road Traffic Act.

Peter Kani Gama hails from Paul Village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Jenala in Phalombe district.
