6 People Arrested Over Killing Of Four Suspected Thieves In Mulanje

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has arrested six people for allegedly having a hand in the murder of four suspected criminals on December 19, 2023 in Mulanje.

Two of the four killed suspected thieves were caught red-handed breaking into a shop at Misewu Folo Trading Center in Mulanje in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The four killed suspects are; Willy Manyowa (Adult), John Maudzu (31), Madalitso Mailosi (25) and another man who is yet to be identified.

Deputy National Police Spokesperson Superintendent Alfred Chimthere has confirmed of the development in a statement made available to this publication.

“The Malawi Police Service has arrested six people for their role in the murder of four suspected criminals on December 19, 2023 in Mulanje.

“As the Police, we reiterate that mob justice jeopardizes investigation, hence it is never a solution to fighting crime. There is also gross human rights violation on sanctity to life, and by extension, an innocent person could be sent to an early grave,” reads part of the statement.

The six suspects have been identified as; Gift Manuel (37), Medson Taulo (50), Shadreck Manuel (52), Thokozani Simeon (26) and Billy Yamikani (30).

The suspects will appear in court soon.
