The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has denied rumours hovering on social media claiming that three law enforcers have been killed in the ongoing violent protests in the capital Lilongwe.
Few minutes the social media was flooded with a video clip showing protesters assaulting a police officer.
Some people went further by speculating that the said police officer has been killed together with two others.
But Lilongwe Police spokesperson, Hastings Chigalu has trashed the rumour, describing it as fake.
Meanwhile, over 40 protesters have been arrested for insisting to continue holding anti-judiciary protests in the capital, Lilongwe despite a court injunction restraining them.
Protesters have been charged with unlawful assembly.
Some of the notable faces arrested include Kingsley Mpaso, Phunziro Mvula, Billy Banda, Jonathan Phiri, Victor Nyenyeliwa, Harale Aubrey, Edward Kambenje and Chimwemwe Mphepo.
