4 People killed in Lilongwe road accident

Four unknown people have died in the wee hours of August 05, 2022 after a vehicle, Daihatsu Mira, they were travelling in collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle, Toyota Vanguard Station Wagon, at Chambwe Village along Lilongwe- Mchinji M12 road.

Facts are that the Daihatsu Mira, registration number PE 5165 that was being driven by unknown driver, was coming from the direction of Msundwe Trading Centre, heading Lilongwe City with three unknown passengers on board.

Upon arrival at the said place at around 01:00 hours, he encroached the offside lane and collided head-on with Toyota Vanguard Station Wagon registration number BW 7713 that was being driven by Morris Changamire, 35, who had one passenger on board.

Following the collision, all four occupants of the Daihatsu Mira sustained severe head injuries, multiple fractures and were all pronounced dead upon arrival at St. Gabriel Mission Hospital.

While the driver of the Station Wagon vehicle and his passenger, identified as John Baluku, a Mozambican national, sustained different degrees of serious injuries.

From January to June this year Lilongwe Police Station registered 460 road accidents, a significant drop from 1, 002 accidents that were registered during the corresponding period in 2021.

Fifty-five fatalities have been registered this year during this period as compared to 62 experienced same period in 2021.
