34 call boys nabbed in Lilongwe

Police in Lilongwe have arrested at least 34 minibus touts (Call Boys) for allegedly fueling uncalled behaviors after receiving complaints from different people on the same.

Lilongwe police Public Relations Officer Hastings Chigalu has confirmed the arrests of the 34 men saying the police effected the arrest today at depots in Chinsapo, Chigwirizano and Labour.

Among others, the men were allegedly fueling harassments, assault and other violent actions against passengers and private vehicle motorists.

Chigalu added that were also demanding money from private vehicle motorists on the accusations that they were taking and dropping off passengers in the said depots’

“In the process, some passengers and motorists have been seriously wounded, cars deflated and damaged,” said Chigalu.

Chigalu then said that the police will not stop clearing the country’s depots’ from such people.

The suspects will appear in court soon to answer charges leveled against them.

Last year government’s spokesperson Gospel Kazako said call boys are not allowed in the country’s laws.
