3 Nabbed For Burning Chief’s Compound Over Chieftaincy wrangles In Mchinji

Police in Mchinji is keeping in custody three men for setting ablaze property worth MK 1,112, 500.00 belonging to Mrs Melida Katukula who is the current Senior Chief Mkanda.
Public relations officer for Mchinji police, Limbani Mpinganjira has identified the suspects as Tumizani Phiri , Newton Bisalom , and Phinias Tumizani who are believed  to be from the clan of the former Senior Chief Mkanda
Reports filed by the police indicate that there have been some chieftaincy wrangles on the succession of the late Senior Chief Mkanda.
According to  Mpinganjila, property destroyed include maize silo, maize flour, grass thatched toilet, grass fence surrounding the compound and other items worth MK1, 112, 500.00.
The three will appear before court to answer charges of Arson and Malicious Damage, contrary to section 337 and section 344 (1) of the penal code.
Tumizani Phiri is 48 years-old, Newton Bisalom is 33, and Phinias Tumizani is 25 all from Dina village under the Traditional Authority Mkanda in the district.
